The US has fallen for propaganda lies, hook, line & sinker.
The fossil fuel industry's lies about #globalwarming.
Putin's lies about his attack on #Ukraine.
Just unbelievably stupid and dangerous.
Facts don't count there any more.
#Europe must step up.

Every time I see something like this, I wonder how Canada can join the EU, or at least strengthen the relationships.

#CETA is rather close to what you are looking for.

What I hate about it is the neoliberal agreement that undemocratic, fake "judges" can force countries to pay up if they pass laws that curb profits by dirty companies in any way.

So if Canada's dirty companies invest in infrastructure in, say Germany, and this sovereign country legislates later that the infrastructure or the business is unsustainable and must be dismantled,
the Canadian dirty companies can sue Germany into oblivion, $$-wise.
Basically, tying our sovereign hands behind our backs IF we want to progress the common good.

But that works as intended.
The way EU is setup and functions it's a neoliberal wet dream, and Canada too, from what I hear.

EU institutions even require from journalists who seek accreditation to regularly report on the going ons in the Commission, that the journalists physically LIVE in Brussels AND that they're employed by for-profit newspapers. Non-profit journalists don't get accredited.

Makes shady policies very easy.
EU stuff simply doesn't get reported on on a regular basis. We don't know who sleeps with whom in the EU commission, who does what, who outsources what and to whom, and so on.
We, the EU citizens, don't even realise that we don't see this kind of information and news.
It's just always been this way.

Anyway. CETA is also a neoliberal wet dream. Sorry for the rant.

@rahmstorf Don't forget even if USA was a sentient entity or collection of entities they don't have a clear voice.

You're probably talking about the many people who live in the USA some of whom have fallen for misinformation, some who don't care or don't know enough to care, and some who are fighting the lies with every part of their being.

Those who benefit from lies have more money and more power and more control over media than others.

Talk with friends, family, neighbors 1:1 for change

@rahmstorf

@rahmstorf

@rahmstorf

#USA and #Russia is a new axis of #autocratic petro states against #China and #Europe which want to get rid of #fossil fuels and export #renewable energy worldwide.

Fossil industry makes a profit of 3 billion per day. Only 40 days of this profit equals US spending for #Ukraine.Ukraine is just the beginning. Europe and China is the target.

#Resistance angainst #Trump and #Putin and fight for #democracy means to get rid of fossil fuel as fast as possible. This will decrease their financial basis.

Two quotes from Hannah Arendt on this topic:

"Before mass leaders seize the power to fit reality to their lies, their propaganda is marked by its extreme contempt for facts as such, for in their opinion fact depends entirely on the power of man who can fabricate it."

--------

"But perhaps the most striking and frightening aspect of the German flight from reality is the habit of treating facts as though they were mere opinions."

@rahmstorf we need to keep one thing in mind: telling the truth is much easier than fabricating lies. It’s incredible that the fossil industry is spending huge amounts of money to fabricate these lies. These expenses alone should be sufficient to discredit their claims. Why do they need to spend so much money on lobbying? That’s not rational for profit-making company!
