Windows who? Linux is the future.

I Don't See a Reason to Switch to Windows from Linux Anymore in 2025

Do you think there's any reason to switch to Windows? Well, we don't think so, and here's why!

It's FOSS
@itsfoss sadly, my job can make me, because they want me to work on powerpoint, real powerpoint, not libreoffice, not online powerpoint. what then ?
@Elisa3 @itsfoss
Install Windows in a virtual machine (VirtualBox)? That's how I've been doing it for ages.

@cqd_sos I didn't do that because I have a little config, not powerfull enough to do that without beeing very slow... dualboot was more efficient for that reason.

But I just ordered a new one with win11, and yes, with a new one, virtual machine could be better (it takes more ressources, that is the issue)

@Elisa3
Yeah, what you need most of all is enough RAM, as everything becomes more bloaty with each release. It's an extremely comfortable way to run Windows though.

Often, for example, I found myself in the situation to check some Windows software out, only to realize that I didn't really need it. Now, how do you keep your Windows install clean? Take a VirtualBox snapshot of your image, then install the software you want to try, and if you find you don't need it revert back to snapshot. Nice!

@itsfoss A wonderful list, as someone who made the switch and even uses the Adobe suite on Linux!
@itsfoss https://itsfoss.com/not-switching-to-windows/ makes a good case for ditching windows but he still ignores the many areas where Linux is far superior to Windows. Doing anything that requires more than one program is difficult or impossible in Windows without extensive training. Tinkering in Linux is a breeze. If you are serious about getting work done on a compute, you need Linux!

@itsfoss I am such a normie that I did not switch to linux as if yet. Pray for me.

@RawVit @itsfoss it's okay, we all go on our own pace. All that matters is you keep going (maybe try a Linux VM first before switching?)

Also, Linux Mint and Ubuntu are great for beginners (and it's perfectly okay to stick with those past beginning, too).
