Apparently…
we are going to use more machines than ever before to become better humans.

Evidently…
this is ERRANT BULLSHIT

…machinic saturation

is giving me

machine ick

…I do still remember the excitement of 25 year-old me finally seated in front of the Mac I had implored my boss to get.

I do still remember the excitement of designing my frst web page in 1997.

I do still remember the excitement, circa 2004/5, of letting @Meyerweb and @malarkey and @rachelandrew and countless others subsequently (🙏) show me how to code for a humane web.

I still love that *craft*.

But the very act of touching its interfaces is now daily poisoned by tsunamis of digital shit

…I didn’t have space in 500 characters to be quite as precise as I wanted to be and I wanted the above to be self-contained.

But when I ended with “tsunamis of digital shit” what I really mean is not the dehumanising machinic processes themselves. They’re awful. But ultimately they’re just the sewage outflow of shitty thinking.

It’s the thinking that is so soul sapping. The thing that poisons everything

@urlyman @Meyerweb @malarkey @rachelandrew I was thinking that about that cat-satsuma-eye-of-sauron meme a moment ago. The delight of seeing something funny on the internet -- a genuine photo of human daftness -- and how incomparable it is with shitty AI images.
@urlyman @Meyerweb @malarkey @rachelandrew and how tainted I feel whenever I brush up against it. And complicit.

@emma yep.

Playful daftness, lightly mediated by machines, is glorious.

Recursive distrust and relentless marketing is hateful.
