Imagine if employees at every federal agency did these pranks with the same theme (but different video) all the time? It wouldn't take long for Trump to get mad and take Elmo down a peg a two.

@briankrebs pretty sure Trump is just letting Elmo dig his own grave in the court of public opinion. Let the guy run roughshod over the government getting what Trump wants out of it. When the outrage is too much, throw Elmo under the bus. When the MAGA base is screaming about their canceled SS and VA benefits, Trump can swoop in and play saviour, blame the filthy immigrant billionaire. It's so clumsy and obvious, right outta trumps playbook.
