Oh my god it still works
@aphyr STILL MY FAVORITE CAS
@aphyr I’m convinced good calculators never die because my dad is still using his 30+ year old calculators from his masters program. And when he told me that, it threw me for a loop.
@aphyr Last time I used one of these things the number only went up to TI-82. What is this modern marvel?
@aphyr at one point I had at least one 84, 85, 89, and … 91? Or 92? The big one that does geometry. I was working as a math textbook editor and needed all of them to test (and sometimes write) instructions
They were out to lunch when the planned obsolescence memo was circulating
@aphyr I've got one of these, but there is a TI-89 emulator for android I use all the time! Ridiculous how good these were, but apparently the pinnacle of calculator development.
@aphyr I was very sad to find out that my trusty HP 48G (RPN FTW) does NOT work... Well one row of buttons does not work. I looked it up, and this is a common mechanical problem that is virtually impossible to fix. 😢
Also, RIP Hewlett-Packard, when they engineered real products.
@aphyr the math? a lot has broke recently but that isn't one of em ... ohh, the TI 😂 j/k
