Dear Germany,

Please don't fuck up.

Love,

The rest of Europe.

@quixoticgeek We try our very best. A positive sign is that it seems that way more people do go voting than back in 2021.
@quixoticgeek
Please do better than we did in America 😅

@quixoticgeek

I didn't vote for fascists of any color and neither did the family.

Apologies in advance, and don't forget that millions are deeply ashamed of those who vote for the comeback of Nazi Germany.

@quixoticgeek
Do you say that every time there is an election and people end up ducking it boldly?
@quixoticgeek Do better than we have; it should not be a tall order.

@quixoticgeek nodds in agreement

I did my part - so far...

@quixoticgeek Doing our very best... still not looking good though... but we will keep fighting!

@quixoticgeek
Co-signed,

The rest of the world.

@quixoticgeek And this salty (and worried) US’ian
@quixoticgeek Current extrapolation see the AfD at 20 %. Germany has proportional representation, so exit-polls and extrapolations are quite accurate. I am not happy about this result, but all Western democracies are currently experiencing this resurrection of fascism and at least in Germany, it has been contained this time: still 80 % say NO! The result is probably a CDU-SPD coalition. Three months ago, I'd not have been too happy ... but after 4 weeks of orange madness, I've seen far worse.

@DP0

> The result is probably a CDU-SPD coalition

If the SPD doesn't find its backbone again and tackle the CDU's racist party program, I see dark times ahead.
And in four years' time, the “original” (= AFD) will be in power.

@ePD5qRxX As I said, under normal circumstances, I wouldn't rejoice any of that. I do neither like Merz nor what has become of the SPD. However, we are currently witnessing the deconstruction of an almost 250 year old democracy by the same type of people that run the AfD. For me, that puts things into perspective. Maybe you're right, and we'll find us in a similar or worse situation in 4 years. But unlike the Amricans, we have 4 more years - even if it is 4 years with the lesser of two evils.
@quixoticgeek @whvholst Well, they done fucked up.
@alper @quixoticgeek They fucked up less badly than I feared. And Merz just repeated that he won't govern with AfD, though I am not sure whether he would not be tempted to do so if the two of them together would get 55% of the Bundestag seats.

@quixoticgeek Dear rest of Europe:
It seems for now we have to apologize. We fought hard and gave it our best. But same as in the US. Disinformation, and Propaganda as well as a media focus on migration politics, seems to have led to almost the worst outcome.

It's still just speculation at this point but most of the time it's pretty accurate.

Best case? No coalition is able to form and we have to vote again. Giving us more time to change the mind of the youngsters at least.
