Make the design as a muffler. It would be much more likely to get done, fit well and keep you warm. (As you learn stitch tension)

@EugestShirley @ramsey @sundogplanets Interesting idea. I think you could just do the front of the front of the sweater and then maybe continue the gray and the orange for either end. I did check the Ravelry projects and no one had adapted it for a scarf but someone had done a hat!

To make it as a muffler/neck-wrap you would have to choose a number of stitches across, then eliminate the increasing and decreasing used to shape an armhole.
It needs to be 2x longer but narrower than a sweater.
drawing the design on a graph paper would help decide what needs to be trimmed off the sides to keep the key part of the idea.

You have a choice of using a smaller yarn weight to get a smaller sized picture with more of the sides showing. That means choosing the right needles too.

The design doesn't need to be repeated on the other side for a man's scarf.

Finished the edges well to keep the scarf from curling.
Fringe the ends.
