@tvaziri @caseyliss what’s the consensus on the appropriate contemporary substitution for the Kina Lillet?
@stevemint @tvaziri @caseyliss Hmm, I thought it was Lillet Blanc, so isn’t Kina the substitute here?
@drwhitt Kina was the version named by Fleming in the original description, and included more quinine than Blanc
@stevemint @tvaziri @caseyliss I don’t know if there is necessarily a consensus, but I have seen folks recommend Cocchi Americano. It is excellent in a martini.
@stevemint @caseyliss wait what happened with lillet
@tvaziri Kina Lillet was the original referenced by Fleming but has not been made since the 80s. There are other versions of Lillet (I have the Blanc) and other alternatives so just wondering what people were using!

@stevemint ah, I always use Lillet

(I thought Lillet was Milkshake Duck'd or something)

@tvaziri it’s probably a question @gruber is best positioned to answer? I have been using Lillet Blanc but recognize I’m missing out on some bitterness from the original Kina

@stevemint @tvaziri Easiest adjustment is a small dash of Angustura bitters to the shaker.

Hard solution is finding a bottle of Kina L’Avion d’Or. It’s an attempt to recreate the original Kina Lillet. A pal bought me a bottle as a gift long ago and I enjoyed it, but I can’t say it really made a difference worth caring about, other than the satisfaction of being a nerd about it.

@gruber @tvaziri being a nerd about stuff is how I show love (to both the stuff, and myself). Thanks for the recommendations!
