Ichigo ichie (一期一会) is a Japanese idiom that means "one time, one meeting". I take it to mean that every moment is fleeting and making the most of every encounter. How often have you driven past a scene that catches your attention and imagination but instead of stopping, you tell yourself you'll stop on the return home. Then if you do stop, the light is somehow different or the scene doesn't have quite the same unique qualities. The moment has passed.

A few years ago during the pandemic I embraced a new photography approach tied closely to ichigo ichie called an "explore driven" approach. This image is the result of stopping, looking more closely, and making the most of that one time encounter with nature.
@alfredomora guilty!! I’ve done that plenty. Also, you see something special but, you dint have your camera with you. I like this image
@MarthaMontiel Thank you Martha! Yes it usually happens when I don’t have my camera with me.

@alfredomora I call that “now or never” and it certainly applies to my photography.

#butyoumaywanttoconsideritinawidercontext 🤣

@fubaroque I like how you phrased it. Thank you!
On my way to a job (I travel around the province for work) and I saw a scene I wanted to capture; a field of maize with a farm house peeking up just above in the middle of it, and Mt Taranaki in the background. I hadn't driven that way to this site all summer, and was surprised to see it planted up. I was rushing to a job but in reality could have stopped for a few minutes. But I didn't. I figured I should do it on my way home.
So I carried on, and on my way home that afternoon I got to the spot and the maize had all been harvested.

That was 5 years ago and it has not been replanted since, and is just a grass paddock.
It is a small regret, but a large lesson. Even if the lighting isn't perfect or whatever, just take the shot. Maybe you can get more images later later. And maybe you might not be able to.

Just take the shot.

@swansinflight thanks for sharing your story! Yes just take the shot.
@alfredomora Much beauty is ephemeral, which makes it more special.
@bytebro totally agree! Thank you!
