Manhattan’s acting U.S. attorney resigned after she was ordered by the Justice Department to drop a corruption case against Mayor Eric Adams that she had championed — NYT

ADDED: Via Joyce Vance:

This is the courage required of people who serve at the Justice Dept. Sassoon resigns, at no small personal cost, to protest the unjust order from DC to dismiss the case against Mayor Adams. Without fear of favor.

2/ Via Katie Phang:

Sassoon, herself, cannot dismiss Adams’ charges. She or another AUSA would have to ask the judge to do so.

Sassoon has said prosecutors should do “their noble work unimpeded, outside the limelight and in service of the public.”

Let’s see how noble she will be…

“Ms. Sassoon, who had supported the case against Mr. Adams, notified her office of her decision [to resign] in a brief email at about 2 p.m.”

I wonder if she will publicly explain why she resigned.

3/ NYT added: "three Manhattan prosecutors resign, the highest-profile resistance so far inTrump’s Justice Department."

4/ via Joyce Vance:

Acting AG Emil Bove tried to reassign Mayor Adams’ case to the public integrity unit at Main Justice in DC. Upon learning of this, senior DOJ officials resigned. The heroes are here.

@GottaLaff I don't understand how it's more heroic to resign than to be fired for disobeying the orders of a dictator.
@Bongolian @GottaLaff Same. I don't blame them at all, but isn't resigning also getting out of the way? Seems like heroic would be pretending to comply, while in actuality dragging your feet and gumming up their system with fake work.
@lee @Bongolian @GottaLaff But would we stay in a toxic, subservient, vile place?
