BTW some points about #DOGE and #Project2025

1. do not call it #deconstruction of the federal government. deconstruction is inherently antifascist, as it intends to break apart THRU EPISTEMOLOGICAL ANALYSIS, the lies that sustain hegemonic ―and by default― authoritarian power.

2. what we are seeing is a build up of a fascist apparatus that the oligarchs can control directly. in other words, they’re cocooning the federal government with technologies for their technocratic dictatorship…

3. it is important that we name properly what is happening.

a. banning books and words is what Gayatri Chkravorty-Spivak described as #EpistemicViolence. it’s the “my way or the highway” way of speaking and thinking that is at the heart of all forms of colonialism; settler, technological or otherwise.

Interlude: Epistemic Violence

Epistemic violence is a concept introduced to postcolonial studies by Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak in her influential essay “Can the Subaltern Speak?” (1988, see also ch. 5). Originally, Michel Foucault developed the idea of the episteme in Western thought...

the whole point of #fascism is to force a worldview in which violence reigns supreme and only The Chosen get to wield violence, unchallenged, upon The Others.

b. EPISTEMOLOGICAL VIOLENCE is what fascists want to unleash thru the government: a very intentional twisting of reality to fit their worldview.

that’s why they’re obsessed with the #CDC ―it is entrusted with public health. fascists want it for realizing their #eugenics dreams of mass death of The Others

1. stop parroting the faux intellectualism of fascists. #deconstruction is an antifascist form of academic analysis. what they mean is destruction.

2. #EpistemicViolence is censorship of all kinds. it’s meant to create a false narrative of agreement.

3. like “Gulf of America” #EpistemologicalViolence is meant to completely change reality by destroying all social contracts.

recognize these forms of violence. violence isn’t only by guns. it’s always by ideology first and foremost. / 🧵

PS: the dissertation i didn’t get to write on Latin American neobaroque aesthetics ―from colonial times to then, the 1990s post-juntas years―, was gonna be me flexing post-structural hermeneutics based on the works of Derrida, Foucault, Deleuze and Guattari but especially 1990s up and coming scholars like Chakravorty-Spivak and Kosofsky-Sedwig. and that means i actually read Nietzsche, upon which a lot of their work is found.

all this to say, #deconstruction is absofuckinglutely my lane.

PS²
about "Golfo de México" being a social contract:

maps are languages and, just like languages, they are negotiated.

this map of 1650 is one such negotiation.

if you notice, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, even CALIFORNIA exist on this map.

not the United States.

AMERICA describes the whole hemisphere. USA doesn't own América. most of América is older than USA.

this is why renaming el golfo is not just epistemological violence.

it's an act of war.

@blogdiva I really, really want to come up with a term to replace "America" as a shorthand for "The United States of America".

Once we settle on something, I could start using it in Issuepedia and HTYP (although both will require a lot of renaming, with the software in its present sad state :-P).

Woozle Hypertwin (@[email protected])

petition to replace references to "America" (meaning the United States thereof) with the term "MidNorAmerica" or "MidNorAm" meaning the middle part of North America because it's between Mexico (SouNorAm) and Canada (NorNorAm) but hasn't had the decency to come up with a proper name for itself Alternative: Usam, USAm (or USoAm except that might be read as "United South America", so maybe not)

Toot.Cat

it's just Estados Unidos in Spanish, United States in English. that's just it. calling USA, America, is normalized Manifest Destiny propaganda.

@woozle

@blogdiva I guess there aren't currently any other "United States of"s anywhere else in the world (though there have been historically, according to Wikipedia) -- it seems still a bit rude to allow USA to forever claim "United States".

...kinda like claiming .gov, and everyone else has to use .gov.[your country's TLD here], I guess. This kind of nonsense needs to stop.

...so I was hoping to come up with something more in line with, you know, "Canada" or "Mexico". A single word that isn't a dictionary word and also isn't the name of another country somewhere, past or present.

(Yes, I am probably trying too hard on this. )

@woozle @blogdiva There's another one: Mexico's full name is Estados Unidos Mexicanos, so United States doesn't fix the problem. Sadly, I don't have any alternatives but I refer to "americans" as "usians".

also Brazil. there's a whole tangential conversation about the name of the USA and it's demonyms, and how the choice is intentional to the colonialist project of its founding oligarchies, but that's for another day.

@ushcala @woozle

@woozle @blogdiva I know you’re talking about the place name, but similarly, we need a better name for the people than “Americans.”

Yankees or Yanks feel like the best chance to rebrand, since it has
some momentum and all the other suggestions in that article kinda suck.
Demonyms for the United States - Wikipedia

@woozle @blogdiva lots of academics use the term “US America,” which is short enough but still emphasizes the fact that the US is not the center of the world lol
@blogdiva Keep it coming. I am learning so much, thank you.
@blogdiva The Caribbean fills the Golfo de México. The Golfo de América sits in the White House.
