New York should demand return of Congressionally authorized funds, with interest. And we should begin to think about how to create a federal tax strike. Right now employers withhold federal taxes on paychecks. I wonder if there is a way to decouple that so it doesn’t automatically go to federal coffers. Probably not easy, but maybe the state of New York could interpose itself somehow between employers and the federal government, holding that tax money in trust and indemnifying employers (1/2)
(2/2) against claims by the feds. It’s probably a pipe dream, but it’s time to start to get creative.

Andres@jaykuo The thing is, they're stealing from *NYC* rather than the state. Adams is owned by Trump, so NYC isn't going to fight back.
Meanwhile, Hochul literally wanted to have lunch with Trump, and she doesn't have much of a spine, so I'm not sure that she's the kind of person to lead this. And they haven't stolen money from NY state (yet).
I suspect we're going to need this kind of thing to be led by another state. Hey WA, how's Ferguson holding up over there? I have an income tax suggestion..

While I'm asking that, can NYC sue the bank to be made whole? All the reporting I've seen to date says the bank disgorged the $80M with no notice to NYC and not in response to any court order requiring them to do so.

sam@jaykuo getting employers onboard for a tax strike would be challenging to say the least but employees can always opt to reduce their deductions in section 4b of their w4, then that employee can decide at the end of the year how to deal with that tax bill. Enough people get onboard for that and it could put a squeeze on the feds.
