I just sent my resignation letter today at Unity.

Unfortunately I won't see the completion of the migration of Unity from Mono to CoreCLR that I first prototyped almost 8 years ago.

I'm still proud of the work accomplished, Burst initially and then the .NET tech group that I have created and led for the past 3 years.

I still have a notice period to deal with but I look forward to take a break.

I made a clarification on the Unity forum about my post on Mastodon:

@xoofx lotta heart in soul in that post man. Glad you are doing right by staying true to yourself.
@xoofx welcome to the other side! I have no worries that you'll do great, whereever it will take you next :)
@xoofx oh wow man big news! Take a well deserved break chief. Excited to see what is next for you!
@xoofx thanks for all your work on Burst and coreclr!

@xoofx oh wow (but can't say I'm too surprised) Take a good break, and best of luck with whatever is next!

The "(or not)" bit sounds ominous though :/

@aras yeah, I just removed the "or not" from my post, it was a rant, and it is not helping the teams staying there.
@xoofx aww man, the hits just keep coming
@xoofx Sorry to hear that, all the best for your next steps. As someone outside the industry I have the feeling that without Unity as the beacon light and all the great work you guys did, C# wouldn't have the use it enjoys nowadays across many studios. Oh well, thanks for making a difference.
@xoofx I hope you find new opportunity that means more great OSS work! All the best.
@xoofx Following your posts I've always been super impressed (intimidated?) by what you seem to be able to achieve with your spare time projects. I hope you have a good break before whatever is next.
@xoofx oh damn, such a loss for Unity, but according to their current priorities, not a surprise. Best of luck with your new journey!
@xoofx sorry to see you leaving Unity, but looking forward to seeing the amazing work I know you'll do wherever you go!
@xoofx I have mixed feelings about this. Wish you the best in the next endeavors though!

@xoofx the not-so-exclusive ex-unity group welcomes another member.

Hope whatever you do next is rad :)

Good for you on taking care of your own sanity!

Best of luck on your next endeavour

@xoofx
Losing you is a big loss for them, and I'd like to ask if CoreCLR will die.😭

@xoofx you can always have a place in the OSS projects such stride/xenko

:)

@xoofx Unity's loss, and I really look forward to your future work, whatever it may be! The Burst compiler was such a solid, transformative feature to ship inside the monolith
@xoofx Welcome to life after Unity! Take care, and find some time for a break. And thanks for the work we did together some years back, I learned a lot!
@xoofx That’s really unfortunate… Your work is phenomenal, always pushing the .NET ecosystem forward. Love your work in Unity and in various libraries (like UnityNuGet, zio, etc.). Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors.
@xoofx I’ll miss you! Congrats on all that you accomplished and looking forward to whatever you put your energy to next!
@xoofx A big loss for Unity... enjoy the upcoming break and I hope you find a great next challenge after that!

@xoofx Found out about this quite late, but I wanted to throw some words of appreciation here.

After following your work for years, I was elated when I saw your prototype:

This is the kind of see problem, fix problem mentality I've come to admire over the years, including the respect for its difficulty. I can appreciate the need to take a break from it.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart for your efforts. Even without completion (yet), they've been beyond inspiring!

@xoofx Amazing work! The concept of convergence for the .net ecosystem is (for me) one of unity's most attractive decisions. Having seen your work on SharpDX and Xenko, I'm glad that you're working on one of the most used development platforms of the future.

@mhdante hey thank you for the kind words.
