family is “really from,” after I just said the United States, ask yourself that question instead. If Black Americans aren’t really from here, neither is your family from the Caribbean. Anyway, happy African-American history month.

woman asked me. Then I had to explain to her why we say Georgia. She said I look like I could be Jamaican. I didn't have the energy to explain more to her.

I get some Black African women asking me where I'm from in Africa

I then explain to them why Black people who weren't born in Africa also identify as Black African

I never hear back from them

I haven't dated a Black African in 21 years consequently
