A federal judge on Friday said he would order the #Trump admin to halt elements of its attempt to shut down #USAID.

Judge Carl Nichols, a Trump appointee, said after a hearing that he would issue a temporary #RestrainingOrder pausing the imminent administrative leave of 2,200 USAID employees & a plan to withdraw the agency’s overseas workers.

The lawsuit filed was by the largest #union representing #FederalWorkers & the union representing #ForeignService Officers.

The unions had asked the court to block #Trump’s dismantlement of the #aid agency, calling it “#unconstitutional & #illegal” & saying it had “generated a global #HumanitarianCrisis” & threatened American strategic interests.

“Not a single one of defendants’ actions to dismantle #USAID were taken pursuant to congressional authorization,” the lawsuit said. “And pursuant to federal #statute, #Congress is the only entity that may lawfully dismantle the agency.”

@Nonilex How exactly does a judge instructing perps to stop unlawfully raiding governmental institutions stop said perps?

How many divisions does judge Nichols command?
