1980 is as far away from 2025 as 1935 was from 1980.

If you grew up in the 1980s and were shocked by history, wondering how the Germans allowed for the rise of Hitler, you are now witnessing it in real time.

The world waited too long to stop Hitler/Mussolini.

The world can't afford to wait any longer to stop Putin/Musk/Trump.

They will not just be Ukraine and Canada's problem for long.

@MeanwhileinCanada

Growing up in the 80s I wasn't wondering why Germany allowed Fascism to happen. I was baffled by my adult peers some how thinking that the path the United States was on couldn't possibly lead to Fascism. Like, that wasn't/couldn't be possible.

You know that thing called The Drug War. It was painfully obvious what the conclusion to this war was going to lead to.

Meanwhile In British Columbia, Canada in the early 1990s.....

@SnowBlind2005 @MeanwhileinCanada When I learned about fascism, there were people I had to argue it with who were adults and were not trying to teach me how to argue.

@MeanwhileinCanada already Gaza problem as well, look at population numbers before and after trump. From what I can tell, he's viewing it as a real estate deal. Musk did a nazi salute it is fact. Trump is trying to create a theocracy.

@MeanwhileinCanada Don't hope for America.

Something happened to me yesterday that made me a believer. Posted on my feed.

I'm an American. I cried very hard last night. I don't hope to keep my country. You should not hope that I ever could have or could now. I'll try. But I can't do shit.

@MeanwhileinCanada @lisamelton don't forget that small apartheid country in the Middle East where Netanyahu rules.
@MeanwhileinCanada Russia is an adversary of western capitalists. Ukraine is the US's war. The US cannot win in a peer to peer conflict, but it can cause damage and destabilization through proxies. There is no evidence or logical reason to suggest Russia is in collusion with the Republicans.

@JohnBrown161 @MeanwhileinCanada There is evidence, the Republicans keep hiding it. Remember when Marco Rubio claimed a report denied the existence of collusion? That same report actually detailed how Trump's team communicated with Russian operatives using the same email account and leaving the missives in "draft" for the other to find it.

Oh, and don't forget how Trump's family admitted that they knew they were talking to Russian operatives, and denied the weak cover story about orphans.

And how the NRA was receiving large sums of money from Russian oligarchs for years.

There's a shit ton of proof don't lie.

@MeanwhileinCanada Interesting perspective, history really does repeat itself in different forms. People always think, "this time it's different," but many old mistakes keep happening. The key is to stay aware and learn the lessons in time.

@ChaosInThoughts @MeanwhileinCanada "History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme."

There are differences, but sometimes they don't amount to much.

@MeanwhileinCanada As a trapped US citizen I now understand how helpless the Germans who didn't like Hitler were as he took everything over.
Huh. I wonder what was happening in USA in the 1880s.
Assuming the presidency after Garfield's assassination, Arthur's presidency saw the largest expansion of the U.S. Navy, the end of the so-called "spoils system", and the implementation of harsher restrictions for migrants entering from abroad.
...ah
@MeanwhileinCanada We may have already waited too long. I'm not sure the legal process will work against crime lords of this stature.
@piper_James @MeanwhileinCanada I don't know, but when it comes to legal process, it takes an authority to enforce it and sanctions against the offender.... but weren't they the world's policemen?
@MeanwhileinCanada the most dangerous among them all is the democratically elected dictator: https://traffic.libsyn.com/yinhistory/EP90-DictatorshipPhysics.mp3
