Just got my 1095-A for the year. (This is the form that proves you had health insurance for tax purposes.)

To insure our family cost us — out of pocket — $15,853.08.

That's before we saw a single doctor.

Before we got a single medication.

That's just to have the insurance.

On top of that $16k is co-pays, deductibles, etc.

Admittedly, the American healthcare system is the last of our worries — we're in the midst of a full-on coup thanks to E10n — but I wish this was better.

@caseyliss Healthcare co-op for my family cost us $4-5k last year and saved us about $10k in what would have been out of pocket expenses for procedures. Out of pocket doctor visits were less than $1k ($70-120 each visit.)

The amount they attempt to bill to insurance is almost always 3-5x higher than the cash pay price. Plus you have autonomy and freedom over your own healthcare.

I refuse to ever pay for insurance again. This is the way.
