Just started playing Lies of P and it's a really great game! So far I agree it's the best souls-like that From Software never made and feels very much like Bloodborne with a few quality of life improvements.

#gaming #gamestfw #soulslike #bloodborne

Initially I was a little worried about how easy it was but they've been ramping up the difficulty at a really good pace. I just beat the Mad Clown Puppet and it was a really good fight and it was hard!

#gaming #gamesftw #LiesOfP #soulslike

I've now progressed through the opera house and man what a cool place! It's so pretty and the "spider" opera singers may very well be the coolest enemy design I've seen in a long time!

Now to take on the King of Puppets. He's really tough, I love it!

#gaming #gamesftw #LiesOfP #soulslike

@sebulon Estella Opera House is BY FAR my favorite level in the game. The first time entering that place may as well be one of the best gaming moments I've ever had. 😊
Romeo is my favorite boss in the game too, which is a little ironic since he is the only one I initially wasn't able to beat without Specter - but I do love bosses that give me a challenge. πŸ˜‚
Tbh, everything about that fight - Romeo's design, the staging, the transition, the music - is pure perfection. πŸ‘Œ
@MaddyWaves If I've managed to solo both Malenia and Consort Radahn I'd be damned if I didn't manage this by myself, and I did! 😊 Man what a great fight!
@sebulon Congrats! 😊
I needed a tip from a guide to prevent his inferno combo with a Shot Put (cuz that's what kept killing me). And right after I got that tip, BOOM, instant win! πŸ˜‚
@MaddyWaves Oh, I just dodged to the right but hey, that would've been neat! πŸ˜„
@sebulon I did hear that dodging to the right is a viable alternative if you can't block it or stop the attack outright.
It's kind of ironic since all of Romeo's other attacks are usually easier to avoid if you dodge to the left, yet when he does his most deadly combo, you're suddenly supposed to go to the RIGHT. πŸ˜…
@MaddyWaves I know right!? That's excellent game design!
@sebulon Feels more like a troll on the game designers' part if you ask me, but oh well - I seem to have a habit of picking games confronting me with that kind of BS, I guess. (That's why I've become rather adept at countering it. πŸ˜‚)
@MaddyWaves The trolling IS the best part IMO, that's what really gets your heart racing! I want the challenge to be hard (and a little unfair, not too much) so it feels like a real accomplishment when I finally beat it πŸ˜„
@sebulon Hehe, it does feel like an accomplishment, I can't deny that. For me, it's enough to feel like I've won with skill (knowing the enemy's attack pattern and how to counter each move, seeing the hint of an attack before it occurs and the like).
There is one boss in the game that is arguably more bullshitty than Romeo. I feel like you're going to enjoy that fight very much. 😊
@MaddyWaves Hey that- uh- bullshit boss... Is it swamp-related by chance? Asking for a friend πŸ˜…
@sebulon Haha, no, it actually gets one tier better than that! πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜
But in all seriousness, I've heard of a LOT of people having trouble with the swamp boss - somewhat miraculously, I defeated the damn thing after just 7 tries in my first run (after ~40 minutes), but it went on to become the single boss that I had the most deaths against in my second run.
On the flip side, the combat experience made me figure out some strategies to counter its most annoying attacks. I can provide some tips if you wish, but as a general rule, having the Aegis arm makes a lot of things A LOT easier.
@MaddyWaves I'll test the Aegis arm and see if it works out, thanks! πŸ‘

@MaddyWaves So the Aegis arm isn't bad, it was a good tip! I think my primary issue is that a lot of my attacks just miss when it stands on it's hind legs in the first phase.

The second phase is just wild, I haven't gotten a good sense of it yet, it just charges and kills me on the spot πŸ˜„

But I'll get it eventually!

@MaddyWaves I finally did it! I actually went with the fire arm- and grindstone instead of the Aegis. I got through first phase basically hitless so I could focus everything into phase 2 and got it burning one time for a little extra damage. It was such a close call in the end, got it done with a hairs life left and a dream! Awesome fight! πŸ˜„
@sebulon Congrats! πŸ₯³
I always wanted to use the Flamberge, but it never quite worked out for me - maybe it's because you basically have to stand still to use it, and I rely on mobility so much.
@MaddyWaves Right, short bursts between it's attacks only, just to build up the fire effect. It should only be used as a compliment to the fire grindstone as it doesn't build up the fire much at all by itself. Off to explore the next part of the game. Disruption, lovely! πŸ˜‰

@MaddyWaves

Collapsing Krat is done! The Corrupted Parade Master went down in a couple of tries. Off to see a quartet about some killing πŸ˜‰

#gaming #gamesftw #liesofp #soulslike

@sebulon Nice! πŸ‘
I actually got the Corrupted Parade Master first try - in fact, in two playthroughs, I didn't die against the Parade Master once, neither the normal nor corrupted version. πŸ˜…
Good luck with the quartet, too!
@MaddyWaves Oooh nice! That makes me wonder what attributes you leveled and how high you leveled them, what talismans, frame etc you had equipped, and what weapon you were using at the time BUT! Don't tell me until I've finished the game please, I want to feel like I got through it by my own strength the first time πŸ™
@sebulon That shouldn't be a problem because 1) I got my entire first playthrough recorded since I livestreamed it (though not in English), and 2) I actually did a table with the number of attempts and time I needed for every boss where I also detail some things about my equipment.
There's one thing I can say, though: I essentially played through the whole game with one single weapon (the one I had from the start + the modification I did to it early on, but that's it).
@MaddyWaves Done, done, done and dddooonnneee! πŸ˜„ Man what a fight! A little too unfair IMO, bordering on luck to get through since the trio was always sniping you to interfere with what you were doing. Fire boy with the hook shot was a real PITA! πŸ˜„ Well, time to end this! πŸ’ͺ
@sebulon The Black Rabbit Brotherhood actually gave me less trouble the second time around than the first time. (I needed 44:53 and 9 attempts for the first fight, while the second only took me 27:07 and 4 attempts.)
I think the main reason for this is that there are props that you can hide behind in the second fight; while the other two will occasionally pester you with attacks, only one of the three will fight you at close quarters at a time, so if you position yourself right, you can use the rocks to block out the attacks of the other two (this also works for the hook shot of the Battle Maniac).
@MaddyWaves Yepp, I took advantage of that as much as possible but it's not always possible of course with three enemies sort of at once. The best strategy I found was to come in hard and try to focus on getting one down as fast as possible to make the interference a little less annoying πŸ˜„ And it worked! My least favorite part of the fight goes to the walk back every time you lost. Not the longest one I know but sucks all the same
@sebulon Yeah, the long way back really sucks, especially the puppets with the pitchforks. (I think you can avoid them if you let yourself fall down at the side, but I only spotted that path too late in my second playthrough, so I haven't tried it.)
In my experience, the Youngest usually goes down fastest. (Or maybe it's because she always attacked me first.) Also, forgot to mention this, but I took LOTS of advantage of the Aegis. (Very useful if multiple attack you at once.)
@MaddyWaves Oh yeah you're using the Aegis! It's the Flameburger for me πŸ˜„

Now late into the game I'm up against Laxasia the Complete! The first phase is going great and then completely breaks down in the second! They're so tough I've been calling 'em Lax-ass-ia out of pure frustration πŸ˜„

https://liesofp.wiki.fextralife.com/Laxasia+the+Complete

#gaming #gamesftw #liesofp #soulslike

Second phase Laxasia right now:

And the man at the back said, "Everyone attack"
And it turned into a ballroom blitz
And the girl in the corner said, "Boy, I wanna warn ya"
"It'll turn into a ballroom blitz"

Ballroom blitz
Ballroom blitz

Finally done, let's see how this wraps up! πŸ₯³

#gaming #GamesFTW #LiesOfP #SoulsLike

Manus felt waaay easier than Lax-ass-ia! No I just have to talk to dear old daddy about something πŸ˜„

#gaming #GamesFTW #LiesOfP #SoulsLike

And that's a wrap for Lies of P, what an amazing game! The last boss was just hard enough, I'm a little surprised I defeated it in one evening actually.

The graphics, sound design, music, voice acting and characters where all fantastic! And no overly sexualized female characters (Looking at you Stellar Blade!) πŸ˜„

I can definitely see myself playing this again sometime!

#gaming #GamesFTW #LiesOfP #SoulsLike

@sebulon Yaaay, congrats! πŸ₯³ Glad you enjoyed it!
I also had a much easier time with Simon than with Laxasia - after the pure, absolute STRESS that was Laxasia's boss fight, I literally said "y'know, this is fine, actually" when battling Simon. πŸ˜‚ Only needed 3 attempts for him, and it might as well have been 2 if I hadn't bungled the second one near the end. πŸ˜…
Nameless Puppet was also an intense but surprisingly short fight for me - I defeated it on my 4th try, though I literally just won by a hair's breath. (With the NP dying from an Aegis explosion. πŸ˜‚)
Lies of P is definitely worth playing a second time! There is some stuff you can only unlock in NG+, as well as some bonus dialogue for some boss fights. πŸ˜‰
@MaddyWaves Whoop Whoop! πŸ˜„ Now that I've done it once I'd love to geek out over spoilers and stuff! I'd love to know what your weapons, stats, armor and stuff like that for every boss. E.g. I had to grind Manus and NP for a good couple of hours before clearing them and you did that in just a few attempts. Like, how!? πŸ˜„ But I don't think Masto would be the best place to do it. Do you have some chat we could continue sometime?
@sebulon Well, one thing I can give you for now is the results of the No Specter Challenge that I did during my live playthrough: https://ideas-on-paper.tumblr.com/post/741419191993860096/lies-of-p-no-specter-challenge-results
As I explained in the post, I essentially beat all of the bosses with the same weapon: the Wintry Rapier handle + the Greatsword of Fate blade.
In addition, my most important assets were the Aegis arm (been using it since Romeo, though that's the only fight where it isn't of much help πŸ˜…) and throwing items, as these things are an absolute lifehack. (I had a rather specific strategy where I would "open fire" on the boss with all throwing items I had on me once they were down to half health in the second phase.)
I'm also a big fan of the elemental grindstones, as they're very useful for extra damage output. (Which can be further increased by using the right element against the right type of enemy: Electricity is effective against puppets, fire against monsters/undead creatures, and acid against humans.)
Lies of P - No Specter Challenge Results

It's been a while since I finished Lies of P, and I'm already on my first NG+ right now, but I thought it would be fun to take a retrospective look at the results of the No Specter Challenge I had...

@sebulon For reference, I will link the clips of my successful fights against Simon and the Nameless Puppet. (Please excuse the German commentary; also, you can hear me mashing the buttons of my PS4 controller near the end of the NP fight. 🀣)

Nameless Puppet: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2017188346
For stats and other equipment, I'd have to check my videos of the specific fights again, but since I've got all of it recorded, it should be doable.
I'm on Discord if you'd like to continue the conversation there - I can give you my handle via DMs. 😊
