(for option 2, consider that if God had meant for markup languages to be extended, He would have put all that junk in the schema to begin with. or at least I think that was the dogma of whoever came up with ASN.1)

I implemented an NWWS-OI client a year or two ago. I also ran an XMPP server and used it for personal communication back when that was a thing, with, like, a couple decades' gap in the middle.

@jbcrawford I just found you saying that mini-DIN PS/2 was antiquated in a StackOverflow answer of 2011, while I was using it till 2012. I'd use XMPP if there was a client on par with Facebook Messenger or Instagram in terms of UI. It's not about me using it, it's about how me as a normal human being would use it to communicate with my friends.
@jbcrawford They like beauty, and technology developers haven't explained how to understand the technologies as much as companies have explained how to use their products in the way they want users to use them (e.g. Windows XP Tour, Nokia Demo), so it's hard to sell it to them.
