The first year of the Welsh 20mph switch are in.

🟢100 fewer dead or seriously injured
🟢26% fewer injured
🟢The lowest 3 month casualty figure since records began 46 years ago

These aren't just figures on a page. They're real people, real families, real lives saved.

@ScottishGreens to hell with the right wing blowhards to want to force their speed onto our streets.
@ScottishGreens as a resident of the Scottish Borders where the default urban speed limit is also 20mph I certainly support extending this to the rest of Scotland. Traffic flows better and it is more pleasant walking along roads.
@EricBranse I also live in the Borders, and I have found the 20 mph limits to be a big improvement no matter whether I'm cycling, walking or driving. Definitely keen for it to be rolled out nationwide. @ScottishGreens
@ScottishGreens
We've got this in Brighton, was doubtful at first but it does seem to improve things, not seen any before/after statistics but it's much nicer walking round

@ScottishGreens
We could do with much more enforcement of the 20 and 30mph speed limits in the Highlands, and Scotland generally. In England, there are lots and lots of speed cameras for urban streets. There are hardly any here.

An example: there is a long straight going through Roy Bridge. It is *very* common for vehicles to travel along this straight at 60mph. The limit is 30mph. Only points and fines will change this behaviour.

BTW it should also be 20mph limit, not 30mph.

@ScottishGreens The Welsh gov shouldn’t have backtracked. Should’ve doubled down. Now let’s start handing out permanent driving bans to those doing over 70 in fucking school zones.
@ScottishGreens In Spain in 2011, due to some macroeconomic issues with the price of petrol, the leftist government reduced the speed limit in motorways from 120 to 110 km/h in order to save fuel.
But apart from the savings, we had a drastic reduction in the number of accidents and road kills.
However, the price of petrol eventually fell and the speed limit was raised again. It seems that saving lives was less important than people driving at full speed 🤷🏻
@ScottishGreens
If you had the courage to have people walking in front of cars carrying a red flag you’d save a real number of lives. Amateurs!!

Welsh 20mph limit: 100 fewer killed or seriously hurt in first year

Ex-minister says it shows policy was the most successful road safety initiative in modern times.

@ScottishGreens

Wait, the records only began in 1979?

twenty is plenty
