Running into empty profiles or hashtags? It's probably not mistake, but it is how federation works. These'll help explain further:

It makes sense technically, but I worry it drives most people to the largest servers to avoid these errors. I actually prefer the small server because I can keep up with the local posts since there's no algorithm. Feels like the older days of the internet again.
Wish we could click those links from within the app 😅
From a cost-of-hosting standpoint, I understand not backfilling into cache/copying onto all servers. At the dame time it seems like a serious oversight to not allow explicitly fetching some posts from the origin server; it need not be all; it could be the « top ten » most recent or most popular, and a way to « load more » (possibly with a minimum delay between loading more, to avoid overloading)
Quick question: When someone likes a post, does it tell the server that post is hosted on so there is a master record somewhere? If so, is it instant or queued up? Just wondering if the number of likes shown for a post on it's original server is accurate.
Yep! It's queued. The original server's # of likes should be accurate, though perhaps not immediately.
Thanks for accepting the application.

I'm a refugee from pixelfed.social trying to get as many non-US servers as possible in my social media presence. I just did the migration thing but ... pixelfed.social says it's completed the migration and sent all my followers here, but pxlfd.ca shows me with no followers.

Also I have backups of my followings, my blocks, my mutes, etc. etc. etc. but I don't see any way to import them here. I just have a bunch of .json files with no obvious way of using them.
Hiya and welcome! Follows and follower count don't update in the UI right away. As for imports, there isn't a mechanism available to import content in Pixelfed yet, unfortunately, even though there are long-standing open github issues about it.
OK, I can add the people I follow manually, though that's a bit tedious. It's a bit weird, though, that this can't be imported easily from Pixelfed, but it can from Instagram. 😂
I don't think I've seen it take longer than a day for the UI to update. As for account followers, it very much depends on the performance on the far end. I know pixelfed.social's been under some crazy load in recent weeks/months, but so have some of the other pixelfed servers. We're fairly overspec'd for the current userbase, so the local server's basically sitting around waiting for the deets.
