Unlike Big Tech, Proton will not comply with subpoenas from the incoming Trump administration (just like we refused all subpoenas from the Biden administration), as it would be illegal under Article 271 of the Swiss criminal code.

@protonprivacy that's cool, but your CEO was recently big-upping US republicans. What's up with that?

Are you a pro-authoritarian company, or is that 'just' the CEO's personal stance?

@bazkie

Our CEO pointed this out himself not long ago over on X:

As a Swiss organization, Proton is not controlled by any individual, but by the board of our non-profit foundation, which has neutrality in its governing principles.

Andy Yen (@andyyen) on X

Trump illegally entering Switzerland would be ironic, our immigration laws are tougher than his wildest proposals. Jokes aside, @ProtonPrivacy doesn't comply with US subpoenas, it doesn't matter if it's Biden or Trump in power.

X (formerly Twitter)

@protonprivacy so then, the position of the board is 180 degrees opposed to the position of the CEO on some very important topics. Because it's clear from your CEO's (earlier) tweet, as well as some in-depth doubling-down on reddit, that he is not politically neutral at all.

Shouldn't this be grounds for finding a new CEO? Will the board hold a discussion/vote over this?

@bazkie @protonprivacy I don't think it's as black and white as you're making this situation out to be.

@bennyccp @protonprivacy if you dive into the details of this situation on reddit - there's various comments on there from both Yen and "Proton team" - you'll see they are pretty much on the same page - pro republican, enthusiastic about Vance, and non-apologetic about it.

That's pretty black and white if you ask me. The board isn't neutral - they are on the same page as Yen on this. Proton is a pro-republican company.

I'm not sure where you see much nuance in this situation, but feel free to shine a light on it
