YoY cost figures. Spot when they moved from AWS to Digital Ocean. #DODeploy
@ian just be aware digital ocean does not respect grandfathering when they change their prices.
@bobmagicii I'm aware. AWS doesn't either to my knowledge.
@ian i also had to threaten to take my blip in the radar 200/mo company to another host if they didn't unblock ports i needed to do things like email the "contact us" form. i won that argument but only for our account.

@bobmagicii for outbound SMTP I'm surprised the IPs have good enough reputation to successfully deliver email. Which is probably why they're blocked by default.

It's harder since DO doesn't have an SES workalike.

@ian i do not approve how only the enterprise cool kids are allowed to send emails these days, and you have to pay their ransom to do it, and will fight it as hard as i can for as long as i can.
@bobmagicii IP reputation is a doozie though, because every time a machine is popped it mines crypto and sends spam.
@ian honestly i was surprised they yielded to my demands given how nothing i run has community weight or social need. me as a client is nothing in their revenue.
@bobmagicii Tbh it's probably a case of "if someone is out customer and is willing to talk to a human to ask, and explains why they want this, that's good enough" from a procedure perspective. But it's an intentionally not self serve thing.
@ian "this policy is going to piss off a lot of old people just let them shoot themselves" 🤣
