What to Know About Trump’s Broad Grant of Clemency to Jan. 6 Rioters

He issued formal pardons to more than 1,550 rioters charged with a wide range of crimes and commuted the sentences of 14 members of far-right groups.

The New York Times

Most of the [#ProudBoys & the #OathKeepers] defendants were convicted on #sedition charges & were serving #prison terms of up to 18 years. Under the #commutations, their sentences will be reduced to time served.

The most prominent defendant convicted of #SeditiousConspiracy charges…was #EnriqueTarrio, the fmr leader of the ProudBoys, …[he received a full pardon, not simply a commutation, from #Trump].

@Nonilex

I hope no one really believes Trump sat down and looked at each one of these.

Some staffer handed him a list.

@Nonilex

Let's be clear, since the media won't be.

The #Jan6Pardons are a direct insult to the rule of law and the jury system. This is not just red meat for his base, this is him rebuilding his paramilitary mob.

These pardons are very, very bad.

@TCatInReality

I gifted a great article by Mary McCord in The Atlantic a few days ago that said the same thing, “A Sweeping January 6 Pardon Is an Attack on the Judiciary”

@Nonilex

A deliberate attack to ensure everyone sees he is above the law. In fact, his word is law.

@Nonilex Unbelievable. And so painful for the victims.
