Loops is our short video sharing platform, we're running the first server at https://loops.video

While it's not open source or federated yet, we are working on that.

If you are on Loops.video, you will be able to migrate your full account to another Loops server without losing your followers, videos, comments or likes!

It's pretty amazing what is possible with open platforms and protocols ✨

Loops, explore and share short videos on the fediverse. Available soon!

@pixelfed (I'm no one to tell or ask or question your product strategy in any way but ... currently there are loads of users apparently rushing to pixelfed for reasons, and quite some of them seem to be running into minor and less minor issues with the platform, with federation, performance, visibility of posts, visibility of comments, ... . A lot of the current issues there are ... cautiously speaking ... much more likely to drive enthusiastic users off the Fediverse again, being left with odd experiences and apparently "broken" systems in an environment they still have to completely embrace. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing to take a few days, weeks, months of focusing on pixelfed quality right now...? In the end, all advertising of open platforms and protocols will be in vain at least outside the common group of enthusiasts if, to open yet still-unconvinced users, open platforms and protocols means degraded user experience and quality of service. 😔)

@z428
Visibility of posts and comments is a huge problem on Mastodon too. I suppose, the problem is not on Pixelfed's side, but a broader fediverse/ActivityPub issue. But I hardly see anyone complain about it, therefore it probably won't get solved anytime soon.
(It's not surprising people don't complain about posts or comments not bein displayed, since for realising that you are missing out on something, you need to know there was something in the first place.)

@pixelfed

@ditol Yes that's a bigger issue too, and I also "just" notice that because I'm using several federated accounts for the sake of curiosity, and it's ... like always confusing how much of relevant conversations is lost then and now. But with pixelfed I had more specific issues in the past and they still seem to happen sometimes. Like, too, pixelfed supporting the ability to disable comments on posts which is essentially ignored by every(?) other federated platform out there. And the somewhat concerning aspect in all this issue is: Just all too often, when raising that problem, answer would be "that's how federation is supposed to be so works as designed" and it feels like completely messing all usability expectations because of technical limitations, rather than considering a better technological approach to make things work in a more or less predictable way.😔
@z428
And at the same time Fediverse-users wonder, why virtually everybody else prefers some oligarch's walled gardens.
@ditol Yes.😔 (And this is why I still have accounts at Bluesky and Tumblr even though without being too happy or proud about it. The Fediverse is the best we can get, governance-wise, at the moment, but it's still tech-heavy and there's too much "golden hammer" about a protocol that leaves loads to be desired and too little real motivation apparently to make a straightforward and accessible solution that works out of the box for random users. There are some proposed changes at least to the protocol that might fix some of these issues, but in general, I am not very optimistic this is likely to change much in near future.😔)
@z428
Yes, I absolutely agree. It's like in a Linux forum: you ask a normie user question and the answer is 1. you're too stupid, 2. some code for the terminal, 3. everything works as desired, it's your problem if you don't like it and besides we hate Windows.
No wonder Linux and Fediverse are still niche.
@pixelfed Nowhere do I see a *reason* I'd use this rather than my normal Mastodon account, where I can post pictures and video anyway. So, “why?" is probably a question that should be answered on the web site (or made more prominent).
@pixelfed
The app is awesome. Great work.
@pixelfed Oh that's awesome! I’ve been proceeding slowly with the assumption that migration wouldn’t be possible (for a while, anyway). I’ll go full bore, and can't wait to install my own instance when I can!
