Happy Birthday to Edgar Allan Poe (Jan 19, 1809 – Oct 7, 1849).

Born in Boston, Poe moved to Baltimore at the age of 20, which is the city we associate him and his works with.

The Baltimore football team is named the Ravens, after Poe's famous poem. The Ravens are playing against the Buffalo Bills tonight.

Here is an illustration from Gustave Doré's book "The Raven" depicting the scene for the last stanza of the haunting poem.

Edgar Allan Poe's “The Masque of the Red Death" is perhaps an apt allegory for the billionaire class and the pandemics of today, where "the entitled members of a society more concerned about comfort and capital during a disaster only causes more destruction. In the end, no one gets out alive." And yes, these folks are the first in line for vaccines while railing against them in public.

The Rich Can’t Hide From a Plague. Just Ask Edgar Allan Poe.

In “The Masque of the Red Death,” the poor are sacrificed to disease so the rich can keep their comfortable lives. Sound familiar?
