Trump is threatening ”shock and awe” next week. I fear that he’s hoping he can trigger huge protests, use that as an excuse to crack down hard, exert power over protesters—including using violence against them—to set a precedent, create fear, and ultimately shut down further efforts.

@[email protected] Yeah—Announcing the raid ahead of time is an invite to organized resistance, which can lead to violence & provide trump his excuse to declare martial law. If it doesn’t doesn’t, there will be a new raid on another city next week. Think of trump’s 2917 Muslim ban & the protests it triggered; only this time the protests are quelled by US troops under the direction of Hegseth. I don’t know how to determine what protest prevents harm to people and what protest creates future harm.

This was my first thought as well.
If deporting was the ONLY goal, the element of surprise would have been beneficial to ICE. The "Heads Up" announcement was precisely to get a rise out of people to trigger protests. Martial Law anyone?
