Stay Gold, America

We are at an unprecedented point in American history.

Coding Horror

@jasonkoebler @codinghorror I’ve thought long and hard about how to fix healthcare in the US. If I was ever in a position to I’d start a nonprofit health insurance company.

All of the staff would be volunteer based but you wouldn’t need much staff because every claim would be blanket approved, save a volunteer medical review board for elected procedures.

You’d pay for it by not having shareholders sucking the profits off the top and not needing a large staff

To process or deny claims, there has to be a way to API-ify billing codes.

You’d reach out to business the same way they do now and get health insurance through employers, but maybe get rid of the deceptive practices like deductibles.

The difference though for the insured, would be as more people signed up, the monthly price would go down.

You’d still need to negotiate with healthcare providers and you’d probably need attorneys to defend for profit companies anticompetitive lawsuits

And in order to prevent people from abusing the system you’d need a small co-pay per visit like $5. Doesn’t matter if it’s a week long hospital stay or doctors appointment, $5 per visit. $2.50 copay for prescriptions.

It would be like gofundme but targeted towards healthcare, because we’re all in this together and people shouldn’t be profiting just by holding stock in human lives.

@abemassry @jasonkoebler love everything about this. I want us to keep thinking about ways we can work towards meeting people's essential needs, here, and everywhere. How do you even pursue happiness when you can't afford healthcare, housing, education...
