Got home a little later tonight than I expected, because I had to park nearly half a mile from my house and climb the hill in the snow.

Another car was stuck in a ditch about 20 yards from our driveway. There was a big tow truck. blocking the rest of the road.

We parked, and climbed.

Woke up about 15 minutes early today, unscrewed the handle from a broom and used it as a makeshift trekking pole so I could brave the half mile down hill across a solid sheet of ice.

The car which, as of the time I got home last night, had been blocking most of the road from the ditch was out of the ditch and parked on a little outcropping on the side of the hill.

Most of the ice will clear today between 11a and 5p.

I did not fall down on the way out this morning. I did fall down on the way up the hill last night, and then slid about 3 yards from where I fell back down the hill.

Accidentally falling and sliding down an icy mountain path in the dark is not an activity I would recommend.

My wife fell this morning at the bottom of the hill, becuase she assumed that the worst of the danger had passed and stopped being cautious.

That was a mistake.

Go slow, be safe.

@ajroach42 In Minnesota, we do the "Minnesota shuffle", which just means never lifting our feet off of the ground when there is danger it might be icy. Super effective, if a little embarrassing.

@halindrome 50° angle, up and down hill, 1 lane gravel road.

Shuffle in either direction and you'll just slide down the hill.

@ajroach42 Oh. Well, yeah. You may need to install a tow rope!
@halindrome we have snow on the ground for more than a day less than once in ten years.
@ajroach42 Wow! Understood. Good luck!
