los angeles crypto bros reporting that they lost their life's savings because they had their seed phrase stored in their house is exactly why cryptocurrency is way better than a regular bank (/s)

With full power of your own money you have full responsibility.

It is like having all your savings cash under the mattress. Probably not a great idea. But it does show an important property of both cash and bitcoin. If you truly own something it is yours to lose.

There is value in having money that is truly mine. With democracy in the middle of a slow motion train wreck collapse in the US I hope the partly sane part of the US will see the value.

@cryptadamist @molly0xfff @davidgerard

Not really sure why I try anymore. Bitcoin is now so deeply partisan in the US. I will not convince anyone...

Sorry for bothering you

Have fun ~staying~ making yourself poor!

@Orb2069 @cryptadamist @molly0xfff @davidgerard

I never advocated bitcoin as a way to get rich.

But yeah, you really proved my point that I should not try and have these discussions. Maybe that is what you want? Who want discussions when you can laugh at the other side together about how stupid they are?

@emil @Orb2069 @molly0xfff @davidgerard one side is a lot stupider than the other

@cryptadamist @Orb2069 @molly0xfff @davidgerard

we even agree on which side that is. But I really want some of the core ideas to spread to the sane part of the tech community.

Because I think we share a lot of values. People on mastodon probably care about decentralization, encryption, and open source software.

That we need to protect rights we had in analog society in the digital. Privacy, permission less payments, etc...

I am doing it again... Starting my rant.

@cryptadamist @Orb2069 @molly0xfff @davidgerard

I'll stop arguing with people on the internet now and go on a long walk with my dog. Have a nice day!

> People on mastodon probably care about decentralization, encryption, and open source software.

we do care about those things which is why we regard crypto as inherently demonic.

i've been a crypto sceptic on and off for two years. in that time i've noticed a clear trend where crypto sceptics routinely use decentralized tools and crypto advocates literally never do. it's just about the money. the "decentralization" is a facade designed to fleece rubes. it's just trump for finance: appeal to a thing people know they want (decentralization), rail against elites (the banks, which are legitimately evil) and then just lie and defraud relentlessly.

@emil @Orb2069 @molly0xfff @davidgerard the idea that crypto bros care about open source software (the actual thing) and not just "open source software" (the label which appeals to people's anti-big tech feelings) is straight up laughable outside of like 0.1% of the group.

@emil @cryptadamist @molly0xfff @davidgerard

Cryptocurrency AFAICT has always been concerned with 'rights' in the American libertarian sense - that is, the weird intellectual oubliette where government is a massive foe, but also incompetent and easy to defeat, and performs no positive service, but is always and solely the only possible curtailer of rights.

Nah, I'm thinking we leave them to rot.
