Ars Technica
@arstechnica Instead of pouring $30M into a rival of Bluesky, Free Our Feeds <https://freeourfeeds.com/> should give $5M to #Mastodon.

💯 !!!

And they are not talking about building a rival of Bluesky, but rather a second AT Protocol instance (relay) running Bluesky software. So, effectively helping build out Bluesky.

@ASegar @arstechnica I agree that Mastodon should get some amount but with Bluesky having a much larger and more active user base along with much easier sign up, discovery and better usability it only makes sense they should get the majority.

@Jackha @arstechnica Bluesky has easier sign-up because it's a (for-profit) single server, and a larger user base because it largely mirrors Twitter's UI. IME, its user base is far LESS active than Mastodon's.

Bluesky will become enshittified. I don't see how freeourfeeds will avoid the same fate; effective moderation at large monolithic sites is expensive and has to be paid for (ads? gah) after the $30M has gone.

@Jackha @arstechnica @ASegar I agree. I've found I get significantly more engagement here compared to #BlueSky. Sometimes 10:1.
