I wrote a blog post about Meta's announcements this week.

Fool Me Once…

Meta’s recent policy changes reveal a complete lack of integrity within its leadership, prompting me to uninstall Threads and scale back my use of Instagram as a stand for values and against corporate hypocrisy.

Ryan Ashcraft
@ryanashcraft Considering some changes, too. Like you, I sympathize with the keep in touch aspect. Facebook is more a way to stay in touch with folks older than me at this point. But I think some scaling back, if not outright stops, are in store.
@patrickokeefe one argument for scaling back instead of completely disengaging is it allows you to remain visible and advocate, while minimizing value you are bringing to their platforms
@ryanashcraft It's funny, at about the same time as you were probably writing this, I was talking to my wife about it, and I said "I might just make my account private and use it for family and *antagonistically*." 😄 My FB and IG accounts are public, so making them private could be a way of minimizing value.
@ryanashcraft I mostly agree with a couple of extra observations. I'm not so sure I would go so far as to say MZ is *actively trying* to be so evil. Joel Kaplan is… but MZ I believe is mostly motivated from trying to keep FB growing. MZ has *always* been easy to manipulate once he thought FB was threatened. Peter Thiel — and Andressen to an extent — probably wrote the book on that game. MZ thinks he is acting in the best interest of FB first and foremost and rationalizing himself through that.
@ryanashcraft which kind of leads into the second point. MZ has 51 percent of the votes and FB is an echo chamber and groupthink. There's nobody left inside that can convince him to change his mind or give him the perspective he needs. It's ironic they killed DEI… because they *need* diversity now more than ever.
@ryanashcraft the only "good" solutions I see here are government anti trust intervention (unlikely now that MZ has gone full MAGA) or collective bargaining and bottom up organization from employees. Not a "petition" or a "protest" but a legit union with legit union protections to bargain collectively against management.
