I have #adhd so never say β€žwe need to talkβ€œ without saying that I am not in trouble. My rejection sensitivity dysphoria will run rampant and I will go through every interaction we ever had in my head trying to find the situation I did something wrong while experiencing anxiety.

Or tell me I am in trouble and why. We can discuss that later but I need to know.

@jascha

them: we need to talk

me:

@jascha pretty sure it works in non-adhd-people the same way

"we need to talk" is always implying "you are in trouble" or at least "I will tell you something negative"

@drazraeltod From my observation over the last 30 years: Most neurotypical person do not bother when you tell them "We need to talk. Let's do that tomoow".

@jascha well, I for sure do.

And I'd guess most people won't tell you about it, but WILL be stressed about it. (maybe less than you or me, but a slight bit of stress will be there)

@drazraeltod @jascha
A lot of good practices, which are especially relevant in ADHD contexts, are thankfully also good things to do in general.
@jascha Hey, that is exactly my own reaction of such a sentence...?
