After close consideration we have come to the decision to block Threads.net instance wide on all related instances

(mstdn.social, masto.ai, mastodon.coffee, pixey.org, gram.social)

The new Meta policy goes against much we stand for and we will not allow to let it spill over to the Fediverse

I just checked the numbers and it seems Threads is the biggest 'loser' here

On all instances combined we lose just under 100 followers spread across all instances

Threads will lose over 13K total

I understand it's rough to lose accounts you follow from Threads but unfortunately it is not worth the risk

Hopefully people on Threads will realize the true origin of the company running their platform and will make the decision to join us here in the Fediverse ❤️

I really really tried making this work but I cannot go any further

Mark Zuckerberg is a person I cannot and will not with with in any way. Sorry not sorry

Some people may wonder why it's now and not before and I would like to try and explain as good as I can

We are a relative large instance in the Fediverse so that comes with a lot of responsibility in making decisions. One of our main goals is safety but we also want to be open and connective until a certain point

Threads promised to be different and we always kept it with a grain of salt but did let the people decide if they wanted to block or not

The new policy is just far over the fine line

@stux I’m new here, and I found it because I was trying to get away from anything connected to Meta or Musk., especially after Zuck’s recent announcement.
However, I don’t know what the Fediverse is - could you explain in language a non-techy can understand? 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Venta @stux

the fediverse is a network of social networks

for example: you joined the "mastodon.social" instance

what's an instance?
it's a community of people who use the Mastodon software

but your instance/community is connected to other instances/communities that use the Mastodon software: so you can read and talk to them too.

but there is more: your instance is connected also to instances that use a software different from Mastodon (for example PeerTube, which is similar to Youtube)

@Venta @stux
so you are connected to those communities too.

this community of communities is the Fediverse.

the advantage: it can't be controlled by a single person/company.
if you don't like your instance, you can change it.
if you don't like Mastodon, you can use another software, but you will still remain in the Fediverse.

@Venta @stux

I don't know if I've been clear.

Maybe a FAQ section could be useful.

@Gargron

@elCelio @stux @Gargron No, thank you I appreciate you taking time to explain. I think I’ve got it, I just don’t know the alternatives yet. I have an Instagram art account, and that’s my concern - finding somewhere to show my art. Plus, I love Instagram! 😂

@Venta

here is the Fediverse software for picture sharing, if you want to give a look:
https://pixelfed.org/

Even if it is another software, people from Mastodon can still see the art you post there.

That's pretty much the Fediverse.
Unfortunately it is much smaller than Instagram.

Pixelfed is particularly easy to migrate to from Instagram: they have a special importer for this.

I use it for my visual arts postings. It also has gallery and collections features. I never got much out of Instagram, so I can't say with much authority how it compares, but I like Pixelfed.
