In 1979, Jimmy Carter had solar panels installed at the White House.

Ronald Reagan had them removed.

This is all you need to know about conservatives.

@AlexGallagher And no Dem since put them back.

Which is all you need to know about Dems.

@Tattered @AlexGallagher
Bush (jr.) put up new ones in 03' speciaclly for water heaters; and Obama upgraded and expanded them in 13' to actually supply energy to much of the household wing.
@Kalshann @AlexGallagher Thank you for the correction. It’s always good to learn!

@Tattered @AlexGallagher
I mean - you're right, Bush started replacing them, and Obama only expanded them.

I'm not meaning to cheer for the current dems, that's for sure! lol

I was a kid when Reagan tore them out so it's always been something I've payed attention to, is all. [shrugs]

@Tattered
Bush put some in the grounds and Obama increased the numbers.
@AlexGallagher Yep; there’s a Wikipedia link in the thread. Nice to know. Still, you know, even war criminals get some things right…

@AlexGallagher

Not only did Jimmy Carter install solar panels at the White House, he also signed into law a 55-MPH speed limit and a windfall profits tax on the oil industry. Said industry painted a big target on his back in 1980 and engineered a landslide loss to Reagan in the 1980 election.

Historians may still be digging for all of the crap the industry and "conservatives" pulled. We know about the back-room deals with Iran but there was more.

@AlexGallagher
I think it says more about Carter and why he lost. And who elected Reagan and called the shots in that White House.

I listened to his 1979 Oval Office address a few years ago (https://youtu.be/GvCmzX55wEY?si=woiyTOtGefPk0miQ). Really sobering and enraging to think about the different future we would have if his environmental plans had been able to see daylight.

@AlexGallagher Reagan also added a Calvin Coolidge portrait.
