Making a go at learning art and drawing this year, namely by trying to actually practice and draw something every day.

This thread will serve as a way to keep up with all of my practices and show off my art... hopefully getting better.

Day 0 (18 Dec 2024):
- lines are very sloppy and "hook" for some reason, which I also do in my handwriting.
- my ability to draw cylinders is awful lol
- circles do not connect well and larger circles are suuuuper wonky, indicating I need to work on my ability to draw with my whole arm

and my first attempt at animation... the classic bouncing ball!

we got some work to do lol...

Day 3 (did drills and lectures the last day or two):
- linework looks better, but still needs some work. My line confidence is bad and I'm very bad at making smooth arcs between points. Also need to work on drawing cylindrical objects
- kinda accidentally ended up with some cool stylization on Ghost Dude (cannon name) and the Antifa Coffee Co. coffee cup.
- turns out, warming up before you practice, as opposed to...after you practice... helps a lot.

I'm taking Marc Brunet's course right now and am getting a bit out of it, though I'll admit I didn't really care much about the material on the human eye and the history of photoshop lol.

Today Actually Felt Fun

Bad:
- haven't taken enough time to practice recently. Really gotta figure out a good way to make art practice habitual.
- proportions in anatomy do not come naturally for me
- my lines are still a bit rough.

Good:
- I did my first two nude figure reference drawings! they weren't great, but I'll get there. Really need to do more proportion observations
- I did practice today, and I learned a lot of things about my weak points.

We'll get there! Lots still left to learn.

A little more reference work for the day. Took a few liberties from a character from a YouTube video that I liked, mainly because I didn't want to deal with the hands, and because I wanted to give some shading a try (it's bad)
Last art for the week, a bit of a simple mech. First non-digital sketch in a bit, tried to apply some of my geometry studies over the last few weeks. It’s not horrible. The tracks and collar are pretty bad and I need a lot of work on my shading. #Art #mastodonart
