Fun Raven story you might ernjoy: https://ruby.social/@stepheneb/112883233816198473
@[email protected] fun raven story: hiked up a steep power line cut with my daughter. The wind speed picked up incredibly as we crested the top. At that moment a young raven flew right over our heads squack-croaking and did a 180 degree barrel roll and flew off inverted. Later learned they do these kind of aerobatics for fun!
Super cool research into Ravens theory of mind! https://ruby.social/@stepheneb/111279589147804461
@[email protected] there was some research on ravens a few years back. A huge aviary divided in half. Ravens could only see to the other side at one small spot in the middle. When ravens on one side were fed they would fly to a place to stash the extra food. When ravens on the other side were watching they would go through the motions of hiding at one spot and then hide the food somewhere else. Their actions were based what they thought the ravens on the other side were thinking.
I wish I had the link easily available. I wasn't surprised that ravens were that smart ... however I was super impressed that the scientists could figure out how to design this kind of experiment.
I will give my guarded support, HOWEVER, "the girls" insist that I bring up the upsetting tradition of "anting." They do NOT find it funny and have not agreed to help any corvids with their de-lousing needs. Perhaps some kind of agreement can be reached after all the Ant Agenda and the Corvid Agendas largely overlap and we have much to collaborate on.
If this horrible practice could be stopped, or at least if the ants could be fairly compensated for their trouble it would help.
Corvids forever!
I support my local murder!
