I might be wrong, because I don't know exactly how Bluesky verification works, but I'm thinking like: Even if you do own the .com for your name or brand, a faker could still acquire e.g. the .org or .me or .co.uk. Can they not also use _those_ to pretend to be you? If so, that article's understating the problem.
