@arstechnica Don't want the bad press of a layoff, or the legal hassles of severance payments or early retirement? No problem, just issue a Return To Office mandate. Then sit back and watch the 20% voluntary departures.

Later you can pretend to be magnanimous by saying that metrics showed that the RTO mandate didn't achieve it's goals, so people can go back to working from home.

Rinse, repeat.
