Attached: 1 image So, about 2/3s of users here don’t use lists! Folks, you really should try using Lists... The results of this poll are not surprising, but really folks if you are not using lists you are only experiencing a fraction of what Mastodon can do. The biggest benefit of lists is they organize the accounts you follow into topical feeds. Why not take a few minutes now to get started with lists? You will be really glad you did! Here’s how… 1/n

Mastodon

@mastodonmigration how about we do not.

These lists remove consent from those listed, for one. They also focus people onto only the accounts listed. At one point or another, they WILL become a tool that does not give users power, whether people mean well or not by putting them up.

These lists are a feature of #DTBOs such as #threads and #bluesky. We want nothing like those, here.

The #fediverse is not about any form of algorithms, even if they are merely a shortcut (that does the things listed above). People want to find and follow People (or funny bots) organically. As results show.

Mind you, even the totally scientifically "poll" had NO SIMPLE "No" OPTION, the only "No" option implies people don't KNOW what lists are, but might want it. Most don't seem to want it.

@faraiwe

Hmmm... At this point Lists are only a way to organize your UI, so your concerns do not seem warranted.

These comments do apply to sharing Lists by somehow importing them or making Lists public and this is another discussion entirely that certainly involves consent, trust and privacy matters. Some form of starter packs and/or public lists are coming. Eugen has intimated as such, and here your concerns are entirely appropriate but current List functionality is local to your account.

@mastodonmigration *I*, for one, think they are warranted.

And so seem ~2/3 of the peeps who bothered to answer the poll. ::motions at very scientific poll::

Maybe there is what people pushing lists WANT to be, and there is what USERS want to be.

I, for one, am for the Users ::electronic voice, cursor floating around::

NO to lists, or anything that even remotely resembles DTBO ux.

@mastodonmigration, maybe one can ask if people use folders to organize their mailbox, pictures, files on their computer, or contacts in their contact application. Of course, I use lists, but the interface for lists is not so practical, so I started using RSS readers instead.
