Why would you do this.
@stroughtonsmith maybe to annoy the Germans who seem to care the most about podcast chapters. cc: @siracusa @caseyliss @marcoarment
@Alphacheez @siracusa @caseyliss @marcoarment …does everybody else listen to a podcast start to finish, in order, in a single sitting? 😅 I pick and choose chapters to listen to while I walk the dog

@stroughtonsmith @Alphacheez @siracusa @caseyliss @marcoarment er yes, it’s a sauna for the mind

Ooh I’m going with that

@stroughtonsmith @Alphacheez @siracusa @caseyliss @marcoarment (I appear to have extended my own analogy that if Apple is a church, ATP is the jesuits … and Steve was the most clear-sighted of many prophets)
@whophd @stroughtonsmith @Alphacheez I rarely actually skip a chapter, but chapters to give me a sense of “is this three more minutes about why Marco’s latest unnecessary purchase was probably a mistake, or twenty-five?” Helps me plan for how zoned out I can be, I suppose.

@chucker @stroughtonsmith @Alphacheez Yep. For me, it’s super handy for the times I choose it for sleep-listening — finding your place is, as yet, an unsolved technology problem

Generally though it’s cycle-touring-exercise

@stroughtonsmith I don't do it in one sitting but I'm listening to ATP while cooking and just stop mid-sentence when I'm done and pick it up again next time I'm cooking (with seeking back 5 or so secs). Chapters are nice for me to know where I was but I don't actively seek with them. (Yes, I'm German 😂)
@stroughtonsmith @Alphacheez @siracusa @caseyliss @marcoarment I’m a completionist so, it’s mad to me that you skip around. So many jokes go with the flow and you’d miss them. I simply can’t with the way you listen. Gahhhh.

@stroughtonsmith what madness is this!? How do you keep track of which chapter you haven’t listened to? This would terrify me (I’m a completionist).

I use chapters to skip a chapter I’m not interested in (which happens rarely).

@stroughtonsmith @Alphacheez @siracusa @caseyliss @marcoarment I have no idea if I’m in the norm or not, but I listen to most episodes of the podcasts I listen to from start to finish. I listen at 1x and I don’t skip ads (although I do subscribe to a few to get no ads). I don’t usually listen in one sitting. I always listen when doing something else: driving somewhere, building LEGO, putting away laundry, mowing the lawn, etc. I very rarely do nothing but listen to an episode.
