Canada is already examining tariffs on certain US items following Trump's tariff threat

A government official says Canada is already examining possible retaliatory tariffs on certain items from the United States should President-elect Donald Trump follow through on his threat to impose sweeping tariffs on Canadian products. Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on products from Canada and Mexico if the countries don’t stop what he called the flow of drugs and migrants across southern and northern borders. He said he would impose a 25% tax on all products entering the U.S. from Canada and Mexico as one of his first executive orders. A Canadian government official said Canada is preparing for every eventuality and has started thinking about what items to target with tariffs in retaliation. The official stressed no decision has been made.

@GottaLaff Sadly, Canadian Cons are trying to score points by trying to validate Trump's BS. Shameful.
@Jgmeadows I sure hope Canadian voters understand what’s at stake.
@Jgmeadows @GottaLaff Canadian cons inhabit those same social media bubbles well insulated from reality that got Trump elected. Anger and ignorance easily trumps knowing and understanding. Canada’s cons have offered nothing but fear and ignorance since prime minister Joe Clark.
@pinhman @GottaLaff While I still didn't agree with their politics, at least people like Clarke and Stanfield had class.
@Jgmeadows @GottaLaff Clarke and Stanfield acted while politics was still grounded in accuracy and well founded honesty. As fear uncertainty and doubt (FUD) established itself as the most effective foil to accuracy and honesty, fear ignorance and prejudice (FIP) now grounds conservative politics, the only success FIP offers is more extreme fear ignorance & prejudice. Willful ignorance easily makes accuracy & honesty a tiny irrelevant footnote.
@GottaLaff About as much as some American voters, sadly.
@Jgmeadows Oh geez. I didn’t want to hear that

@GottaLaff @Jgmeadows ironically the ostensible complaint raised by TFG is border security.

Given the # of illegal firearms smuggled in from the US we could call that bluff, magically* stop the guns from coming in, and cancel the BS reason for why tariffs at being threatened.

*This is the most obvious gap in the potential response.

@GottaLaff

So...Trump will now be preparing to launch an invasion of both Mexico and Canada then, right? He doesn't like it when anyone punches back.

@GottaLaff Let’s start with Tesla.
@lauriekay9 That would be awesome.

@GottaLaff
Slap my face for saying this!
You all should have a ticketmaster tariff for guys like me entering the great white (snow) north...

#TikTok :)

@GottaLaff
They should go first. Make it crushing, everything we export to them. Cause a few businesses to fold. I bet Canada gets a LOT FROM KOCH industries. Show the world, and most importantly his weaselly backers in Congress his irrational bullying tactics won't work.

@GottaLaff

Would they even need retaliatory tariffs though since goods made in America all pretty much use parts from Mexico, Canada or China anyway so they'll become more expensive just from the US tariffs?

@GottaLaff
How much more neighborly can we get with #ChristianNationalist leadership? This regime is not in office yet and they are starting conflict with our closest neighbors. Just like Jesus did.
@GottaLaff my advice to Canada is- The USA is already screwed because we have Trump, they should do their best to stick it to Trump the way he’s going to stick it to us, at least we could smile while it’s happening.
@GottaLaff Canada only needs one Tariff a 100% tariff on all Tesla cars entering Canada.
