The way this is going I'm gonna have to add "design VR controller" to my to-do list
I always assumed they'd improve on Index finger tracking, not remove it
#vr #virtualreality
@AminiAllight It's possible/probable that they'll do camera based finger tracking, but losing the strap and the grip sensor sucks. The thing I hate most about all the other VR controllers is that the middle finger grip button forces me to use my pinky and ring finger to do the actual holding.
@DKesserich Over on Twitter Brad said they might be doing a strap as an optional battery hatch you can swap out
And also that they're probably doing camera-based finger tracking
But I can't help but feel like that's gonna come with a big reliability hit
@AminiAllight yeah, I don't feel like anyone's ever really nailed inside out camera based tracking (I haven't used an Apple Vision Pro and probably never will, so can't speak to it), and if the fingers can't be tracked if the hands are out of sight that's going to cause a lot of issues.
@AminiAllight on the other hand, the Ibex/Steam Controller 2 looks like exactly what I wanted it to be.
@AminiAllight Or just make an add-on better trackpad for the index controller.
@rabbit400 Why the trackpad? Normally I hear about everyone wanting to replace the thumbstick because it has a very short lifespan
@AminiAllight cause the trackpad is bad, thumbstick is good but breaks... (im just a casual vr player - never started vr-chat)
@rabbit400 I mean don't get me wrong, I don't love the trackpad either 😄 Gotta be the weirdest shaped trackpad in history
@AminiAllight I mean, I think its optimized for space and just didnt turn out good enough. Slightly larger and with modern software (and hardware) I hope it could be match a proper laptop trackpad. And so be a big step to using index controllers for like real UI stuff.
(Xomb i must sleep)
