I find it interesting you point out ground effect, when you don't point out that they're designed to be mounted much closer to the ceiling than they actually are to the ground in the testing apparatus.

@ironhydroxide @TechConnectify This is not equivalent. A fan will blow air in a particular direction, but it can’t draw air in from a particular direction. It’s just air pressure equalizing.
@leckse @TechConnectify and funny enough, some fans are reversible as shown in the video. Which means yes, it can make as much (or more) difference than being as close to the ground as shown.
