Hot Take: Democrats will win up and down the ballot when they become a true left party that prioritizes economic, social, and climate justice. As long as they run as Republican lite, they won't ignite or inspire their base, and will always run as the lesser of two evils. That's not a strategy to win, it's a weak attempt to not lose.

You can't out shame the devil so stop trying to be like him.

@QasimRashid The democrats will never be far left. They are the branch of the billionaire that don't owe fealty to MAGA. Even FDR's great new deal was not motivated by lefitist inclinations so much as the desire to give the people enough to avoid an actual revolution.

No?

@QasimRashid the Democratic Party is like half a dozen parties glommed together because we can’t have more than two viable parties using only first-past-the-post elections. If the party could split up without the separated parts being unelectable the more progressive parts would do a lot better than the more conservative parts. A few places have started that change, but this election was a big setback.

“I belong to no organized party. I am a Democrat.”

@ShadSterling @QasimRashid #rankchoicevoting? It gets rid of the primaries where the fanatics nominate who’ll be in the ballot, and allows you to protest vote who you really like as well as who’ll you settle for.
@QasimRashid money money they are Republican lite

@QasimRashid
We tried that in the UK with Jeremy Corbyn. He lost three elections in a row and the Torys were in power years longer than they should have been.

Good luck.

@davidgrieve @QasimRashid he may have become PM, but Labour still smeared him and shit on him every chance they could. The party in no way, shape, or form became anything as "left" as what Qasim is discussing, and their half-assed measure failed.

@EdCates @QasimRashid
There is not a majority of hard left voters in the UK or US. If you pursue that as a political movement you will loose every election.

I am just being pragmatic. Win the centre and get things done.

@EdCates @QasimRashid
So they should have been even more left wing and that would have worked?

I think you have a tenuous grasp of Realpolitik, which is often the downfall of the left.

@QasimRashid I don't think the Dems are capable of that, I rather think we should start a liberal third party that has a realistic plan

@QasimRashid Yeah. The fact that only Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger had the stones to do the *bare minimum* ethical thing proves the point that the GOP is a totally amoral cult. Appealing to patriotism and morality to a totally amoral cult makes no sense and proved to be totally ineffective.

Why the establishment Democrats keep Charlie Browning the football is beyond me, except that most of them are center right and can’t imagine everyone isn’t like them.

@QasimRashid

It was 10 Dems in Congress who "chose" to leave for personal reasons, right? It seems to me they just needed to "want" to stay in Congress as badly as GOP did -- both 2022 and 2024. Seems we need to pick our battles right now, because ballots will be as meaningless after 1/20/2025 as the ballots in Russia are.

Trump was *not* lying when he said he'd never need another voter if he won 2024.

@QasimRashid In 2022, Oklahoma Democrats nominated a person who was a Republican until 6 months before campaign filing season (the required period to run for office in a party) over a lifelong left Democrat to run for Governor. Their hope was that this former Republican secretary of education could win. Their percentage of the vote was no different than any election in the last 16 years. Sometimes it seems like they want to lose.
@QasimRashid It's been tried. Bernie Sanders lost to Hillary Clinton.
@QasimRashid I’m pretty sure their base came out and voted for them and it wasn’t t enough. So going further left isn’t somehow going to garner more votes. I think the opposite needs to happen. Dems need to meet the people where they are at - less ideological (fanatical) and more practical.
@QasimRashid The Democrats are not an extreme L party.
