Reading the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024 release and it's very funny.

This is labor brain. a bunch of people in NSW did a survey and now they think they can win 87% of swing voting parents who don't know how to talk to their kids about anything?

They could have done the right thing and banned ads and algorithmic targeting for under 16s... that' would have made sense?

also, minecraft isn't included in the bill because they're cowards?

@shlee Do you have any insight on how this will or won't affect mastodon instances? I realise the chances of our government even knowing of mastodon is zero, so I assume we'll be dealing with splash damage here.

I spoke with the government years ago and we're considered a hobby until this particular instance hits like 1 million active users.

@shlee Of course. So kids can still join social networks, just not commercially regulated ones. Excellent work, Canberra.
