If the rules of a social media platform tell you that you have to listen to Nazis, debate with fascists, and let trolls stalk you in order to use it, change the platform.
@Strandjunker Absolutely this. In the aftermath of the Brexit vote and trump 1 we were all over on Twitter, 'debating' with worst humanity has to offer - and quite a few bots. Getting shouted at, abused, laughed at and for what? Not a single mind was changed and the public discourse shifted not one iota. What a waste of time. Leave them to their hellsites.
@Strandjunker from what I've read of this Brendan Carr fellow, seems his idea of "free speech" is to make it illegal to enforce moderation on *any* major US based platform...
Seems there's gonna be some significant legal showdowns in the coming years and a decent Mastodon instance might be the best place to avoid this potential disaster.

Trump taps Musk-allied big tech critic Brendan Carr to head FCC

@LairdJames @Strandjunker ah, but no human can be trusted with moderation because he or she will necessarily impose his or her biases on others. That is the problem with moderation, and why the answer is always more speech.
@darkhorse1
Fuck you. Moderate that, bitch.
@Okanogen
Chill Out. Consider reporting before you freak out: moderation is aware that the instance he is on (LinuxRocks) is widely blocked and limited for weak moderation. No need to have posts like this that get reported.
@darkhorse1 @LairdJames @Strandjunker
Pointing out you're on the right Fedi server for that, but you're talking about a balancing act that pretty much all moderators on this network have to deal with. Too much moderation and ideas can't be openly discussed, but too little and it's difficult to even have a conversation, and keep in mind, not all ideas are really worth discussing: people can come on trying to talk about flat Earth or whatever, but if it starts to interrupt conversation about actual science, that's counterproductive.
@Strandjunker Using a can of gasoline and a match.
@Strandjunker Don't forget that X changed the TOS to use posts to train the AI.
@Strandjunker Exactly why I gave up on 10 years on X.
@Strandjunker That was the reason I stopped going to the bad place. And then the “we’re changing the block button” and “all your data belongs to us to use as we see fit” were the reasons I deactivated my account.
