@noam I find that kind of stories both depressing and uninteresting.

It is very rare to see an interesting take on "sudden reveal of horribleness", and for it to work it has to be hinted at earlier, so the reader has a reason to go "Oh, I should have seen that coming".

Without buildup, it's just nihilism.
