When half-life 2 came out we didn't have internet at home

My dad drove me and my computer to a different city so that I could use the internet of someone that he worked with to download it

That feels like it was a different world now

@Wearwolf wasn't it also one of the first games to use the then new steam client
@Lachlan @Wearwolf I think that was what they launched it with. I know that's how I wound up with it. Oh so many years ago.
@retrosponge @Wearwolf weird to think how much has changed over the last 20 years in gaming
@Lachlan @Wearwolf And not for the better in a number of cases.
@retrosponge @Lachlan I don't know if they had other things using steam before that but half-life 2 definitely required steam

@Wearwolf @Lachlan That was what it launched with. Then I think they added the Orange Box titles.

I might be wrong, but I think the first game that was released from a third party on there with the Steam Works stuff, was Audiosurf.

@retrosponge @Lachlan Audiosurf feels like it was a lot later but maybe I just came to it late

It would have been another two or three years after half-life 2 came out that we got internet so I don't have a lot of knowledge about early steam

@Wearwolf @retrosponge yeah I didn't checkout out half life 2/steam till much later as I was 6 when it came out
@Lachlan @Wearwolf I remember buying HL2 and having a computer that was incapable of running it 😆

@retrosponge @Lachlan this was Deus Ex Invisible War for me

"What's a shader and what version of shadders does my computer support?"

@Wearwolf @Lachlan 😆 Those days are at least gone.
@Wearwolf @Lachlan I just looked up on Wikipedia and it WAS the first game to use Steamworks.
