Reliably, the New York Times finds the mildest, most normalizing way to describe the absolutely bonkers appointment of a Fox "News" host as head of the most powerful military in the history of the world.

The expression "outside the norm" doesn't begin to explain how bizarre this is.

@dangillmor The Times, as always, showing that it didn’t learn much at all from its coverage of fascists back in the 1930s.
@dangillmor
jesus...this is absolutely bonkers
@dangillmor I’m sure senior officers are thrilled to have to explain how absolutely everything works to this guy.

@dangillmor

Funny that they omitted the part about him attacking a guy with an axe.

The lawsuit alleges that the defendants — Pete Hegseth, Fox News and "Fox & Friends" — were "negligent, wanton, reckless and careless."

“…outside the norm…” Everything Trump does is outside the norm.

@dangillmor Having only a passing familiarity with defense work, I'll hazard a guess this is something like giving a Ferrari 812 Competizione to a kid who's made some clever snarky remarks about his local BMX race.

The phrase "Hang on, it's gonna be a bumpy ride" is inadequate to the task.

@dangillmor He looks like a Nazi war poster. It makes complete sense.

@dangillmor

f* the times and the post.

@dangillmor Hannibal Lecter wasn't available.

@mattblaze @dangillmor That's too bad. I would imagine Hannibal Lecter washes his hands occasionally.

Fox News' Pete Hegseth Says He Doesn't Believe in Germs, Hasn't Washed Hands in 10 Years

In what may or may not have been a joke, Fox News' Pete Hegseth said on-air that he doesn't believe in germs, and that he hasn't washed his hands since 2009.

@dangillmor Translation, he couldn't find anyone of a rank higher than captain in the national guard to sign on to his lunacy.
@dangillmor It seems that all Trump's cabinet choices are supposed to make him stand out like the only sane person in the room.
